The museum-memorial complex «ALZHIR»

The museum-memorial complex «ALZHIR» is a unique structure dedicated to the victims of political repression during the 1930s-1950s in the 20th century. Renowned architect of Kazakhstan, Saken Narynov, is the author of this complex. It includes the «Stalinist Car», «Arch of Grief», fencing with barbed wire, watchtowers, sculptural compositions like the «Tears» monument, barracks for incarcerated women, Alash Park, the Wall of Memory, and the museum building. These years have entered history as periods of severe trials for the country, when many accused of being enemies of the people and nationalists were sent to camps. Their wives were not exempt and also faced imprisonment in the Akmolа camp.
